The life of NOW
”You can’t change the past, but you can ruin the present by worrying about the future”
We always wonder what comes next or what lies ahead of us. And our action– we always chase for the future. We use the present by worrying. But I wonder, what really keeps us worried; that drives us to chase for the future. Is it for security? Wants? Or perhaps an ideal picture of a future-wanted-kind- of living? Or maybe for happiness? But is happiness found in the future? or is happiness already in front us? Like right NOW.
Since chasing and wondering about the future often produces worries and thoughts of ‘ WHAT IF’. Our compensatory mechanism will be WORK. Work hard; for somehow it equates the feeling of ‘assurance’ by gaining money, having a big savings in a bank or by doing all the right things to please the person we are in the relationship with, or by putting all our heads in our career and studies. This is our nature.
Like what the old saying says ‘too much of everything is bad’; therefore, An ideal amount of worry is healthy. When we are worried we open our self to different doors for learning and we open our self to what we call Discipline.Working hard and being workaholic are different. Working hard is a virtue while being a workaholic is a disease. When we are workaholic we become insensitive to our environment, people who surrounds us, our family, friends, people who are important. we can see them but we can’t exactly hear them, we can hear them but we can’t exactly listen to them. Because the only important to a workaholic will be work, too meet deadlines and whatever reason a workaholic has. A workaholic is a chaser of time and the future. Maybe the life of a workaholic is on his work and his ‘Now’ is on hiswork.
Everyone could give their own meaning of what life is about and how to live life to it’s fullest. And to me,the picture of a true lived life; that is living to the NOW existence. A truly lived Life is not perfect. The true form of living life is IMPERFECTION and the true form of just watching life is PERFECTION. And that ‘perfection’ way happen when we are chasing for the future-wanted-life-to-live and we fail to realize that we are in our NOW life – the immediate period where we feel our existence. We can only live in to our now when we learn how to ACCEPT the present situations and difficulties that are present before us. And acceptance is always the starting key of contentment. You might not agree on this but this is the fact, we don’t control our life, but we can plan for our life, we do not hold and control circumstances but we can learn how to deal with it. We can always chase for the future and be drawn chasing for it – the future- but there is no certainty that the picture of the future we have in our mind will be the kind of future we will grasp on. Life circumstances do not always go along with all the plans we have planned. We can be certain about our emotion for someone; but emotion itself is not even permanent, it always change. We can plan for our career, studies, relationship but again, we cannot predict what will happen the next five hours, the next day, the next two months and years because nothing is certain in life except uncertainty itself is certain. The present is the blank canvas of the future. But what happen usually– WE FAIL TO LIVE in our PRESENT because, we are so preoccupied chasing for the Future; that often leads to discontentment, the key in failing to appreciate what we have in our present, our NOW.
According to Wikipedia, Present- “is the time that is associated with the events perceived directly- immediate [...] a period of time between the past and the future [...]“ and Future is define as “the portion of the projected time line that is ANTICIPATED to occur[...] the indefinite time period, the time after the present.”The pattern is like this:We have a time of now to live, we have a future to consider. There are choices to do in our NOW that affects our future-wanted-life to lived. But the point here is - stop watching your life; start living it. Which means don’t exclude your life from living the gift of time that you are given. Appreciate what you have right now, don’t stick your perception on the area you don’t like, but instead focus on where you can feel the positive energy that makes you feel ‘your living’.Life and time are ONE. Which means we cannot exclude life from time. We have to enjoy each moments may it be good or bad.The time is NOW; not Later, not next day, not next week, not next month or not next year- but NOW! So, if you have the time to appreciate what you have or what you go through or where you are at this moment- Appreciate it! Because the time you will have later is not the same to the Time you are having right now. live!
